Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki Sauce: Delicious grilled chicken skewers marinated in lemon, garlic and herbs are served with a creamy yogurt cucumber sauce.

Souvlaki pita is a popular Greek fast food, consisting of grilled skewered pieces of meat or fish, that are served on pita bread and topped with tzatziki sauce. It is very similar to a Gyro, the difference being how the meat is cooked.

With the Gyro, the meat is placed on a spit (rotisserie), roasted and then thinly shaved onto the pita bread. Both are delicious, however, Souvlaki is definitely easier and faster to make.

This recipe is perfect for weekend bbq’s, camping, or even a quick weeknight meal. And since the meat gets cut up and marinated overnight, it’s super quick to skewer up and place on the grill.

The Tzatziki sauce can be made the night before as well. It will give it time for the flavors to marry.

This recipe is a great option for those on the keto diet. Simply omit the pita bread and add some low carb veggies to the skewers, making it a delicious low carb option.

When Max lived in Quebec, many years ago, he lived in the Greek quarter. He is a lover of souvlaki, but of course it is the lamb version. It was one thing that I learned early on to prepare after we were married. Your recipe looks good, I’ll have to slip some chicken souvlaki into the rotation for kicks and giggles. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
