Sweet & Smoky Peach Chipotle BBQ Sauce

This Sweet & Smoky Peach Chipotle BBQ Sauce is made with fresh peaches, smoky chipotle peppers, and naturally sweetened with pure maple syrup. It's rich, tangy, slightly smoky, and just the right amount of spicy without overpowering the fresh peach flavor. Perfect for brushing over grilled chicken, pork, ribs, burgers, or serving as a dipping sauce.

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Blender or immersion blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • rubber spatula
  • Glass jar or airtight container for storage

Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe peaches peeled, pitted and chopped (about 2 cups)
  • ½ cup water
  • 5 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos
  • 1 chipotle pepper in adobo finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon adobo sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Add the peaches and water to a medium saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat and cook for 8–10 minutes, or until the peaches are very soft.
  • Carefully transfer the peaches and cooking liquid to a blender.
  • Add the tomato paste, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, coconut aminos, chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
  • Blend until completely smooth.
  • Return the sauce to the saucepan and simmer over low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  • Taste and adjust if needed. Add another teaspoon of maple syrup for a sweeter sauce or a splash of apple cider vinegar for a brighter finish.
  • Cool completely before transferring to an airtight container.

Notes

  • One chipotle pepper provides a mild-to-medium smoky heat. Add a second pepper if you like a spicier sauce.
  • The sauce thickens as it cools.
  • For a thinner consistency, stir in a tablespoon or two of water.
  • The flavors continue to develop after chilling overnight.
  • Delicious as a glaze during the last few minutes of grilling or served alongside grilled meats as a dipping sauce.

Recipe Tips

  • Brush onto chicken, ribs, pork chops, burgers, or shrimp during the final few minutes of grilling to prevent burning.
  • Makes an excellent sandwich spread for pulled pork or grilled chicken sandwiches.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months.
